چکیده

Image analysis and recognition on a journal or conference paper, called J-image here, is greatly worthy of researching due to existence of various objects and layouts in it. Furthermore, a scanned J-image may be not in a normal orientation, which will usually affect the recognition result. Thus solving the document skew problem is still a challenging topic today. In this paper, a contour analysis based approach is presented to deal with a complex J-image, which may consist of texts, tables, graphics, figures and mathematical expressions with oneor twoor mixed-column page format. A set of 859 skewed J-images with different skew angles within [0 , 90 ] were used for experiments. The mean error of estimating skew angle below 0.1 can be obtained in general cases, which confirms the feasibility of the proposed approach.

Skew Detection Using the Radon Transform*

In an automatic document conversion system, which builds digital documents from scanned articles, there is the need to perform various adjustments before the scanned image is fed to the OCR system. This is because the OCR system is prone to error when the text is not properly identified, aligned, de-noised, etc. Such an adjustment is the detection of page skew, an unintentional rotation of the ...

A FILTERED B-SPLINE MODEL OF SCANNED DIGITAL IMAGES

We present an approach for modeling and filtering digitally scanned images. The digital contour of an image is segmented to identify the linear segments, the nonlinear segments and critical corners. The nonlinear segments are modeled by B-splines. To remove the contour noise, we propose a weighted least q m s model to account for both the fitness of the splines as well as their approximate cur...

A New Algorithm for Skin Lesion Border Detection in Dermoscopy Images

Background: With advances in medical imaging systems, digital dermoscopy has become one of the major imaging modalities in the analysis of skin lesions. Thus, automated segmentation or border detection has a great impact on the subsequent steps of skin cancer computer-aided diagnosis using demoscopy images. Since dermoscopy images suffer from artifacts such as shading and hair, there is a need ...

Review on Skew Detection and Correction Techniques

The image obtained after scanning an opened book page usually suffers from various scanning artifacts. One such major artifact is the Skew defect. This defect reduces the quality of the scanned images and cause many problems to the process of document image analysis. It is difficult to understand such documents by the Optical Character Recognizer (OCR). Some effective methods are present to rec...

Convex hull based skew estimation

Skew estimation and page segmentation are the two closely related processing stages for document image analysis. Skew estimation needs proper page segmentation, especially for document images with multiple skews that are common in scanned images from thick bound publications in 2-up style or postal envelopes with various printed labels. Even if only a single skew is concerned for a document ima...
